CRITERIA OF SUSTAINABILITY
As the first step we have developed a questionnaire in order to identify the most important criteria for sustainable development. This questionnaire shows the actual situation of the single service providers in this market and counts as a first rating. In the questionnaire we have concentrated on the most important, measurable processes and technologies, which are available nowadays in Chile.
The following Groups of Evaluation Criteria are included:
General policy in relation to sustainability
Measurement and further steps for CO2- reduction
Water treatment and organic waste
Use of products
Cleaning and cosmetics
Room facilities and equipment
Flow of Information
Socio- economic environment
Participation in local cultural development
FOR TRAVEL - MODULES (additional to the Hotel Criteria):
Operation of Excursions
Training and development of Tour-Guides
After the weighting of each answer according to importance, results a final percentage out of the maximum of points each participant could reach. .
CERTIFICATION OF THE PRESENTLY BEST ACTORS IN THIS FIELD
In the following Andes Nativa awards the enterprises with best results with a quality seal “Certificate of Sustainable Tourism" – appreciating the efforts made until now by the service provider.
Certifying the product, Andes Native is compelled to present the product in a preferential way during the following years in its sales material.
RECORD AND CONSULTANCY
Based on the information received in the enquiry from the service provider, Andes Nativa works out a complete report about the results. This report includes a detailed evaluation about each answer in a global context and with recommendations for areas which need further development. This way the service provider is able to improve in specific areas towards a sustainable operation. We do give practical suggestions about the most suitable and effective technologies and do facilitate the exchange of experiences between the single service providers.
AGREEMENT ABOUT ACTIONS AND OBJECTIVES
In cooperation with each service provider we do coordinate future measures, which do contribute to a further improvement in sustainability within one year. During this step there are strongly considered the possibilities and conditions of each service provider. With the determination of realistic and achievable objectives there should be achieved improvements in the areas where the most intensive development is necessary.
FLOW OF INFORMATION AND COMMUNICATION TO CLIENTELE
Andes Nativa will play and important role in controlling and communicating the successes and progress. This means that sustainability will become a dominating topic within the communication with the service provider. Each element which the service provider does integrate into its operation will be statistically ascertained and then regularly informed to the clientele. This way, service providers have an additional instrument to communicate their advances to the tour operators abroad in order to satisfy the demand for a growing interest in information from the clients in this topic.
